Principal Cornet - Ian Comer

When did you start playing?

With Dunchurch Silver Band Juniors around the age of ten on cornet.

Banding/Musical experience:

At sixteen I joined the Army as a junior bandsman and after two and a half years in training including a year at The Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall joined an Infantry Regimental Band where I provided Musical support to my Army unit on various postings around the world.

Ten years later I transferred to a Corps band being permanently stationed at Arborfield Garrison, Berkshire. Throughout these ten years I performed all over the UK and travelled to various locations abroad on short band tours.

After leaving the Army I rejoined Dunchurch Band again in late 2002.

Favourite banding highlight(s):

1. Playing Vivat Regina on Fanfare Trumpet at the Albert Hall for my Corps 50th Anniversary Concert.

2. Being in a band for The Changing of the Guard Ceremony at Buckingham Palace for a month.

Other hobbies and interests:

1. Being a Coventry City Season Ticket holder since 2002/03 season and a supporter since I was old enough to stand on a stool at the back of the terracing.

2. Following cricket religiously in all its many glorious forms.

3. Being a fair-weather coarse Angler.
