Soprano Cornet - Rebecca Hithersay (aka Becky or Becks)
When did you start playing?
I started playing trumpet at age 8, being taught by my Dad. Then became involved with brass bands a year later playing cornet.
Banding experience:
I started out at Bilton Silver (Rugby) Band in the Junior (now Training) Band, progressing to the Senior Band following an audition. Later, I joined Dunchurch Band where I volunteered to try my hand at Soprano when a vacancy arose. Since then I have also been a member of Daventry Brass and Burbage Silver Band before recently returning to Dunchurch.
I am also fortunate to have been able to lend a hand on occasion to Ibstock Band, Oddfellows Brass, Syston Band, Cubbington Band and Croft Silver Band where I ventured out of my comfort zone, learned a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Favourite banding highlight(s):
A trip to Gournay-en-Bray in France with Dunchurch Band in 2000 was a wonderful experience and lots of fun.
Also playing at the Caird Hall, Dundee in the 2003 National Finals following a win at the Area with Daventry Brass.
Other hobbies and interests:
I enjoy photography, scrapbooking, cooking, and I’m just rediscovering knitting! I’m married with two young children and I own a web-based shop selling papercrafting materials.
